The limitation is bar varsh jamin12 years on private land under the Limitation Act 1963.  While on public land it is 30 years.  A bench of Arun Mishra, S.Abdul Nazir and M.R.Shah said that the law gives an owner the right to claim his property for 12 years.  So if there is a dispute regarding any land, it can be recovered by filing a case within 12 years.

 The Supreme Court has made it clear in its judgment that the original (legal) owner cannot evict the owner if he has legally acquired his right to possession after bar varsh 12 years of illegal possession.  If the forcible possession is removed then he can file a case against the original owner and claim the property back as the original owner loses his right of ownership after bar varsh12 years.
